3/4M - Term 4

Term 4

This term our Geography unit is called 'Places Are Similar and Different'. This unit examines the natural and human features of Australia. Students will use atlases to locate places and features of Australia. They will draw a free-hand map of Australia showing the states, territories and capitals. The unit then explores the neighbouring countries where students discuss the similarities and differences between two places. This leads to discussion on what life might be like living someone else.

In literacy 3/4M is reading 'The Little Refugee'. This picture book tells the story of Anh Do’s journey from Vietnam after the Vietnam War. Anh and his family fled their country by fishing boat. They endured heat, storms, hunger, thirst, being attacked, loneliness and fear before they reached Australia. Students will consider the issues of refugees and the role Australia has in helping these people. The Focus on Reading and Seven Steps to Writing Success programs are being taught to improve comprehension and writing skills.
