Headstart

Welcome to Headstart!

In 2023, Wyoming Public School continues to  offer a transition to school program, Headstart. We are able to provide this program to families in our zoned area at no cost.

The Headstart program supports children and their families in the year prior to kindergarten enrolment. Its goal is to provide a smooth transition to 'Big School' through developing children's skills in literacy, numeracy, language, social and motor skills.

Parent and Carer Information Session

  • When: TBA
  • Afternoon Session: TBA
  • Evening session: TBA
  • Where: Wyoming Public School Hall.

What makes the Headstart Program so successful?

  • Families choose to attend on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. It is important to note that Headstart is not designed to replace a child's attendance at Pre-School. The Program operates for Terms 2, 3 and 4 starting with 2 hours per day and building to 4 and a half hours per day.
  • Headstart Program is staffed by an experienced Kindergarten classroom teacher who will work closely with your child's preschool as well as a School Learning Support Officer / Aboriginal Education Worker. The high staff to student ratio provides greater individualised support in physical, social, emotional and academic areas.
  • Parent information sessions will run throughout the year. These sessions will assist parents in understanding school life and how best to support your children. Further information about the dates and times can be found in the Headstart enrolment pack. We encourage all parents to attend these sessions as it provides an opportunity to get to know other parents as well as the staff at Wyoming Public School.
  • Staff report that the extended program has ensured that Kindergarten staff know all children's strengths and areas of need and that all children start Kindergarten knowing school and class routines.
  • Children report that they make friends and are excited about starting ‘Big School'.
  • Parents report that they are more relaxed about their children starting school as they are familiar with school routines, programs and staff.

2022 Headstart Enrolment Pack can be collected from the school office later in Term 1. Further information is also available on the school website: www.wyoming-p.schools.nsw.edu.au
