KR - Term 4

Welcome back everyone to Term 4 – Oh my goodness, where has the year gone??!!!

I hope you all had a relaxing holiday break and you are ready for our final term of Kindergarten. The following are just some of the activities throughout the term:- Grandparents’ Day, excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm, Music Count Us In, Principal’s Award afternoon, Books in Homes assembly, Narara Valley High School band and K-2 presentation day.

English - We are continuing our mornings of English activities linked to the L3 (Language, Learning, Literacy) program. Differentiated instruction occurs during reading and writing activities as students move through a variety of Literacy activities. 'News' continues to be integrated within our speaking and listening activities and will be guided by story books and various topics.

Maths - takes up most of our middle session with activities including the TEN (Targeting Early Numeracy) program. The topics this term are Whole Number, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Fractions and Decimals, Area, Three-Dimensional Space and Data.

Science - Our Science unit this term is called ‘Paddock to Plate’. This unit discusses healthy food choices and where our food comes from. Our excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm in Week 2, is a wonderful opportunity for students to visit a working farm and consolidate their understanding of this unit.

PDHPE - During fitness, students will be consolidating their fundamental movement skills and participating in dance movements. Students must wear a hat to participate in these mandatory curriculum activities. Please ensure your child has a wide-brimmed school hat with them every day. We will also be finishing our Child Protection activities. A note was sent home with all students regarding this program last term prior to beginning these lessons.

Technology - Integration of technology is implemented across all key learning areas. Most students are now able to log on and off the laptops independently. We will continue to access code.org and complete a variety of coding activities followed by the further introduction of word processing skills. We will be focusing on a variety of iPad musical and mathematical applications.

Excursion - Our excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm is Tuesday 23rd October 2018 – a reminder note has been sent home. Students must be at school at 7.20am to mark the roll, ready for a 7.30am departure. Please note we will be on a strict time schedule and as such, buses will not be able to wait for any late students. We will be back approximately 4.00pm – we will keep you updated of any changes to our arrival time via the school app.

General Information:-

Library - Thursday – please ensure you student has a library bag to keep their borrowed book safe. Your Books in Homes bag would be a great option.

Home Readers – We encourage all students to read their home reader every night. Home readers are to be returned every day to swap for another book. Please remember to sign your child's card each night they read. Your support in this important program is greatly appreciated.

Sight word booklets – Students are asked to read their weekly sight words each day and keep the booklet in their home reading bag.

Student banking – See the front office if you would like your child to be involved. Banking day is Wednesday.

Uniform – Please make sure all your child's belongings are clearly labelled. Hats are a compulsory requirement for students to participate in mandatory sport and fitness activities and to play in the sun.

Fruit break – Each day our school participates in ‘Fruit (or vegetable) Break’. Students are encouraged to bring in a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable.

Parent helpers –  A huge thank you to the parents who are helping in our classroom. If you wish to help in the classroom, please come and see me or send in a note.

Newsletters – Newsletters are sent home every fortnight and are a great way to stay connected to any upcoming events.

You can always use the school website and app for details of upcoming events.

Semester 2 reports will be sent home with your student at the end of the term. I'm looking forward a fun-filled, amazing term with all the (not so little) ducklings in KR. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to come and see me or alternatively you can make an appointment with me before or after school.
