Term 3

Welcome to Term 3, 2023!

It hard to believe we are already into Semester 2! The year is flying by!!!

This term we are studying the Geography unit, The Earth’s Environment. We have been exploring the climate, natural vegetation and native animals of places in Australia and China and their importance how including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples value environments. Later this term we will enjoy a fabulous excursion to Bouddi National Park where we have an opportunity to appreciate and learn about the various vegetation and animals that are significant to our place on the Central Coast! Plus, how this environment is managed and protected for future generations. This will be our last excursion for the year.

Recently the students have been writing brilliant informative texts about Uluru and even composing texts where they have been comparing and contrasting Mount Everest with Mount Kosciuszko! Did you know that it takes three and half hours to climb Mount Kosciuszko and 40 days to climb Mount Everest?

We are well underway with our Term 3 Home Reading Program and many students have already achieved 20 nights of reading! Well done! Remember when a student achieves 40 nights of reading their name goes into a draw to win a family prize!! A big thank you to all 3/4S families for their ongoing support of daily reading at home.

We have also been reading the text, The Peasant Prince by Li Cunxin in class and further developing our reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary skills. The students are really enjoying this true story of Li’s early life in China and how, through determination and hard work, he achieved his dreams. We have made kites and added our wishes and dreams for the future. Plus, they have learnt that the word ‘remote’ has more than one meaning, and it not just the TV or game controller, but ‘meaning distant or faraway’!

In mathematics we have been learning about in the last few weeks about data and 3D objects, whole numbers and regrouping. The students are continuing to enjoy their Basic Maths Facts and honing efficient addition, subtraction multiplication and division skills. Everyone is working on perfecting their multiplication facts are and practicing them as part of weekly homework. Keep up the great work!

Remember to update pencil cases so you are always ready for learning each day. Here is a reminder:
