Term 1 2021

3B

We’re officially off and running in 3B! We have had an awesome start to the year with students settling in very quickly. Although there are several students new to our school, all have been welcomed with open arms. In our class, we live by The Three B’s:

-          Be yourself

-          Believe in your own ability

-          Better as a team

For Mathematics this term we will be exploring some of the Big Ideas in Number. This aims to challenge and progress the way students think and learn. Our focus topics for this term include Addition and Subtraction, Whole Number, Multiplication and Division, Length, Fractions and Decimals, Data and 2D Shapes.

Our Literacy study will be on the beautifully illustrated and rhyming picture book ‘Iggy Peck, Architect’. This text highlights the importance of supporting dreams and ambitions and the impact this can have. Our Focus on Reading skills are utilised to support students’ comprehension as we work through this book together over the course of the term.

Homework will be distributed on Monday and may include Numeracy and Literacy revision, assignments and special projects (such as preparing a speech). The most valuable support you can give your child is to participate in the Home Reading program each and every day. It is important that we establish a reading routine not only at school, but at home as well.

Another Key Learning Area that will be implemented this term is Science. We are studying a unit of work called “What Are You Made Of?”. This program aims to investigate the three states of matter, the properties of varying materials and how to apply this knowledge to design objects with specific purposes.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are our fitness days. Additionally, Tuesday is library day and class sport will be on Friday.

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle, hat and their own classroom equipment each day. An extensive list is included on the class information letter.
