Term 1 2021

4L - Term 1, 2021

We’re off to a great start this year with students settling in very quickly. In 4L we have several students new to our school who have been warmly welcomed by their classmates.

This term we are studying a Science unit of work called “What Are You Made Of?”. We investigate states of matter, the properties of different materials and how to use this knowledge to design objects with specific purposes. Students will conduct experiments, and analyse and modify designs to improve their function (such as designing an esky to prevent an iceblock melting).

Our Literature study is Iggy Peck, Architect. This rhyming picture book showcases how dreams and ambitions should be encouraged. Our Focus on Reading skills are utilised to support students’ comprehension as we work through this book together.

We are learning some Big Ideas in Number this year which affects the way students think and learn about Mathematics. Our focus topics for this Term include Whole Numbers, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Fractions and Decimals, 2D Shapes, Data and Length.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are fitness days.

Friday is Library and Sport.

Homework is distributed Monday and may include Literacy and Numeracy revision, assignments and special projects (such as preparing a speech). The most valuable support you can give your child is to participate in the Home Reading program every day.

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle, hat and their own classroom equipment each day. An extensive list is included on the class information letter.
