Term 2, 2021
This term we are studying a History unit of work called “Community and Remembrance”. We explore the history of our local area including the influence and legacy of First Nations peoples, how people commemorate events differently and the meaning and importance of symbols to various communities.
Our Literature study is Simpson and his Donkey. This picture book follows the story of John Simpson from his childhood in England to his involvement in World War I. Vocabulary and inferences continue to be focus areas in class to promote comprehension. Thank you to those families who are listening to students read each day and signing the Home Reading Log; this is the single most important way to help your child’s learning and it shows in their progress.
Our Big Ideas in Number continue with exciting ways for students to learn how to use maths in flexible ways (no more chanting times tables!). Other investigations will include Mass, 3D, Angles and Chance.
Athletics is the focus for sport this term including cross country (middle distance running), discus, shotput, long jump and high jump. We are developing student ‘fundamental movement skills’ in PE to complement these events.
Homework expectations this term continue to be:
- daily home reading, recording in Home Reading Log
- daily practice of times tables (cards supplied)
- preparation of speech to be delivered in class during Week 6
