Welcome back for Term 2!
We have lots of exciting and fun things happening this term in 2-6L.
On Thursday in Week 2 we have our cross-country running carnival. Students have been practicing for this by doing some running of our school track.
Gymnastics will be starting in Week 6 for students in Years 3-6. This will take place every Tuesday from 10:30-10:55am. This is a free program.
This term in maths, we are looking at 2D shapes and 3D objects. We will be learning to recognise their features and identify them in everyday life. We will also be looking at time and money which will be ongoing throughout the year.
As part of our literacy program students in 2-6L are enjoying reading Roald Dahl’s The BFG. They are finding it fascinating by exploring their imagination and looking at different perspectives that occur throughout the story.
2-6L are also focusing on improving their sentence structures by using finger spaces and correct punctuation. The main focus of this term is improving the use of capital letters and full stops as well as adding extra details into their writing.
We are currently working on writing and practising our speeches for our public speaking competition in Week 4. Our students are enjoying picking their topic of interest from our four options and starting to expand upon their ideas with simple sentences and picture prompts.
Every Wednesday from 9:40 until 10:55am 2-6L has Mrs Sturgess. This term she will be focusing on the history unit. The students will be learning about how Australian became a nation. This includes exploring how Australian society has changed throughout the twentieth century.
We have seen a huge improvement in student participation in our home reading program so far this term and we are excited to see how many students in 2-6L will reach the goal of 40 nights of home reading. These lucky students will receive the special prize of a slushie as voted by students at the end of term 1.
Please make sure you are signing off your child’s home reader each night as in 2-6L they receive dojo points, stickers and awards when they read.
