Term 2

Welcome back for term 2.

We have hit the ground running this term with our cross-country. We are proud of all our students who participated on the day. It was quite a challenge for some of us, but everyone gave it their best and helped their house get participation points. Congratulations to Zev and Koster who made the top ten for their age group. Zev will now have the chance to represent our school in the zone cross-country, to compete against other schools.

We are looking forward to more sport this term with gymnastics in weeks 6-9, jump rope for heart in week 10 and practice for our school athletics carnival to be held later this term.

All students in 3-6S were given the opportunity to try out for the school boccia team that will represent Wyoming Public School. Well done to Jacob and Ethan for making the team.

This term students will be encouraged to participate in our school public speaking competition. We have already spent time in class preparing and rehearsing our speeches and many students have also worked on these at home. We look forward to hearing the speeches in week 4. The best speech presented in class will then have the opportunity to present their speech to the rest of their stage group.

In literacy we will continue to work on our reading with daily practice and guided reading sessions in individual and small groups. We will be working on decoding skills and self-monitoring for our students who are finding reading a little more challenging and our more confident readers will be working on character studies and analyzing the text for a deeper understanding.

In math we will be looking at 3-dimensional space, this will involve identifying the features of 3-dimentional shapes and labelling them. We will also be learning about mass and will experiment with weighing objects, using formal units of measurement to accurately measure, compare and record the weight of items.

A few reminders:

All students are given weekly spelling homework which should be returned on Fridays along with their home reading logs to be signed off. Well done to Matilda, Ethan, Brodie and Chonlathee for completing 40 nights home reading in term 1. These students participated in the water fun day and went into the draw to win family prizes. We hope to have more students successfully complete 40 nights this term, so they can receive the reward of a slushie at the end of term and go into the draw for the family prize.

We are also finding many of our students are not bringing hats to school every day. Please ensure that your child has a suitable hat for play each day.

We are looking forward to a busy term ahead.

Thanks

Anna and Brooke
