Extra Curricular Activities

Public speaking and debating

Students have the opportunity to participate in our annual public speaking competition. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 prepare and present a speech on a given topic. Winners from each stage then present their speeches to the school community. These students then present their speech at the Hunter/Central Coast Regional Public Speaking Competition.

Our debating teams participate in the New South Wales Premier's Debating challenge each year. Students enjoy debating against other schools and learn many important skills for public speaking, critical thinking and reasoning.

Environment Club

Every Monday and Tuesdays at lunch, students meet to be part of Wyoming Public School's Environment Club. Students learn how to care for a vegetable garden, including planting seeds and seedlings, weeding and harvesting produce. They are taught how to grow plants through cuttings,

names of common plants and how to care for a worm farm. Other activities include landscaping gardens, regenerating bushland and beautifying the school. Environmental issues are also discussed and participation in national events such as ‘Clean Up Australia’ and ‘National Tree Day’ are annual events. Students from 3-6 are welcome to join.

STEM Club (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics)

Any budding scientist is welcome to attend the STEM club with Mr Walter every Thursday during lunchtime. Students will have an opportunity to design, test and evaluate a variety of hands-on science experiments. Students from 3-6 are welcome to attend.

Choir

The WPS Choir rehearses in Ms O'Riley's room at lunchtime on Wednesdays. During even years, we encourage students in years 4, 5 and 6 to participate. Students of all abilities are welcome to come along and have some fun learning a diverse repertoire of songs. Every other year, the choir takes part in the Central Coast Choral Festival with over 40 other Central Coast public school choirs. During CCCF years, students in years 5 and 6 are invited to  join and attend rehearsals throughout terms 2, 3 and 4 that culminate in an amazing end of year concert with over 250 performers.  Previous students have described singing at the CCCF as a highlight of their last few years at primary school. We would love you to come and join us!
