Term 1

Welcome to 3/4W!

We have hit the ground running after a slight false start at the beginning of the term! The students have worked very hard at settling into the classroom and learning their new routine.

For Writing this term, we are creating a Dreamtime Story. It is still in the planning stages at this point, but we have decided to write about the red-bellied black snake, native to the rainforest that backs onto our school. By the end of the term, students will have drafted, revised, edited and published a complete piece of imaginative writing.

In Reading, we have been studying the story of Simpson and His Donkey. We have been practicing our fluency and expression when reading and have been creating some detailed vocabulary maps on some interesting words we’ve found in the text.

In Creative Arts, we have started learning some Highland Dancing moves; Mrs Walker’s favourite pastime! We have also been learning about safe and effective stretching, body angles and using different muscle groups to complete a movement.

In History, we have been researching the traditional owners of the Central Coast, the early settlers in the suburb of Wyoming and how the area has changed over time. We have deeply analysed a variety of historical photographs of the Gosford area and enjoyed using Google Maps to compare with the present day. Soon, we will begin a research task on Australian and Global celebrations and commemorations.

To finish off our history unit this term, we are very much looking forward to the excursion to Fort Scratchley in week 10. We will explore the grounds of the fort, take a tour into the tunnels, and witness the firing of the cannon. We can’t wait!

Recently, we ventured across the road to Maidens Brush Oval for Clean Up Australia Day. Stage 2 filled six whole boxes full of rubbish! We have had such a great start to the term, and we are looking forward to a wonderful year!
